We’re a team driven by our core values: a deep-rooted passion for learning, a relentless pursuit of quality at speed, humility in our growth, a commitment to pushing boundaries, empowering others fearlessly and championing the needs of our customers. Our culture is built on these values, ensuring we stay agile, innovative and empathetic to the evolving needs of the education community.

At Atomi, you’ll be encouraged to think creatively, work collaboratively and contribute to a mission where every piece of work is a step towards realising our collective potential in classrooms and beyond.

The opportunity

Atomi’s AI/ML team works to improve student outcomes and empower teachers with actionable AI powered insights. In particular, we’ve pioneered AI for instant marking and personalised feedback within interactive high school assessments, currently used in 700+ high schools across Australia and beyond.

In this role, you'll be leading the development of ML systems for student performance modelling and personalised recommendations and ensure that it continues to increase in capability, accuracy and operate reliably and safely under an increasing production scale.

What you'll do

    • Lead the development of ML systems for student performance prediction and personalised content recommendation
    • Design feature engineering pipelines for modelling student knowledge over time.
    • Development deep learning models capable to learn latent patterns from sparse interaction data
    • Optimise inference performance to meet production latency requirements
    • Implement monitoring and training workflows to combat data drift and maintain reliability
    • Contribute to ELT pipelines that generate quality data for ML workflows at scale
    • Design and execute online experiments to validate ML capabilities
    • Propose testing frameworks for hypothesis-driven ML development
    • Write production-ready code, participate in reviews, and build reusable components
    • Work with MLOps engineers to design, develop and deploy reliable ML systems
    • Collaborate with with product teams to deliver impactful user-centric features
    • Communicate findings to stakeholders and contribute to team knowledge sharing

What you'll bring

    • Expertise in deep learning (DL) techniques with proven experience building, optimising and deploying neural network architectures. Bonus for production experience with representation learning, sequence modelling (transformers, LSTMs), handling of data sparsity issues, and personalised recommendation systems.
    • Expertise in data/feature engineering from interaction streams.
    • Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical analysis and online controlled experiments. Bonus for familiarity with causal inference and bandit experiments.
    • Proficient in Python programming and version control systems (Git).
    • Hands-on experience using common DL frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, NVIDIA Merlin), ML orchestration tools (e.g. Metaflow) and relevant cloud MLOps services (e.g. AWS SageMaker).
    • Bonus for proficiency with modern data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Beam, NVIDIA Merlin NVTabular) and experience with feature stores (e.g. Feast or SageMaker Feature Store) for managing ML features at scale.
