Position Overview / Purpose
The Domain Architect specialises in a specific domain, providing architectural leadership and guidance to ensure domain-specific architectures align with enterprise architecture and business objectives. This role focuses on integrating domain-specific strategies with the overall enterprise strategy, enhancing the domain's effectiveness and efficiency. The Domain Architect collaborates closely with other architects and stakeholders to drive domain-specific innovations and improvements.
Accountabilities
Enterprise and Business Architecture
Develops domain-specific architectural strategies to ensure domain architectures integrate seamlessly with enterprise architecture. The goal is to support business goals through cohesive and aligned domain-specific solutions, resulting in effective domain architectures that enhance business performance and agility.
- The Domain Architect collaborates with domain experts and stakeholders to create architectural models and frameworks specific to the domain. This ensures that the models accurately reflect domain needs and are aligned with broader enterprise goals.
- The domain architect works closely with the enterprise architect and other domain architects to ensure these models integrate with the broader enterprise architecture. This coordination helps create a cohesive and unified architecture that supports overall business objectives.
- The Domain Architect oversees the deployment of domain-specific solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards. This involves working with implementation teams to guide the process and ensure that the solutions meet domain and enterprise requirements.
Strategic Planning
Develops domain-specific roadmaps and initiatives to support strategic planning within the domain. The objective is to align domain strategies with overall business objectives, resulting in well-defined domain strategies that drive business success.
- The Domain Architect contributes to creating domain-specific strategic plans by engaging with domain leaders and stakeholders. This ensures that the plans are comprehensive and aligned with business goals.
- The domain architect collaborates with enterprise planners and other domain architects to ensure these plans are aligned with the organisation's overall strategy. This coordination helps create a unified strategic direction.
- The Domain Architect supports executing domain-specific initiatives by working with implementation teams and monitoring progress. This oversight ensures that the initiatives are executed effectively and achieve their intended outcomes.
Governance (GOVN - Level 6):
Implement governance frameworks within the domain to ensure compliance with architectural standards. The aim is to maintain consistency and compliance across domain-specific architectures, resulting in well-governed domain architectures that align with enterprise standards.
- The Domain Architect establishes governance practices for the domain by collaborating with compliance teams and domain experts. This ensures that the practices are comprehensive and relevant.
- The Domain Architect monitors compliance with these practices by conducting regular reviews and audits. This helps to identify and address any issues promptly.
- The Domain Architect ensures continuous improvement in governance practices by taking corrective actions to address non-compliance. This proactive approach helps maintain high standards and supports strategic objectives.
Requirements Definition and Management (REQM - Level 6):
Manages requirements within the domain to ensure solutions meet domain-specific and enterprise-wide needs. The objective is to deliver comprehensive and aligned requirements that guide solution development. This results in effective and efficient projects aligning with domain and enterprise objectives.
- The Domain Architect facilitates domain-specific requirements workshops, engaging stakeholders to identify and document requirements. This thorough approach ensures that all relevant needs are captured.
- Conducting thorough analysis to define and prioritise requirements, the Domain Architect ensures that the most critical needs are addressed first. This prioritisation helps to focus resources on the most important areas, improving project efficiency and effectiveness.
- The domain architect maintains clear and consistent communication with stakeholders to ensure that requirements are documented, validated, and managed throughout the project lifecycle. This ongoing management ensures that requirements remain relevant and are met throughout the project.
Methods and Tools (METL - Level 6):
Utilises and promotes best practices in architectural methodologies and tools within the domain. The goal is to drive the adoption of innovative tools and techniques. This leads to the effective and efficient use of architectural tools that enhance domain performance.
- The Domain Architect evaluates and selects appropriate methods and tools for the domain by researching industry best practices and consulting with experts. This ensures that the chosen tools are effective and relevant.
- The domain architect conducts training sessions and workshops to promote adherence to standards and best practices. This helps ensure that all team members are knowledgeable about and committed to best practices.
- The domain architect continuously improves tool usage and application by collecting feedback and monitoring performance. This iterative approach helps refine tools and methods, leading to better outcomes.
Emerging Technology (EMRG - Level 6):
Monitors and evaluates emerging technologies relevant to the domain to assess potential impacts and opportunities. The objective is to ensure informed decisions about technology adoption, which results in the adoption of innovative technologies that enhance domain performance.
- The Domain Architect conducts technology assessments to evaluate new technologies' relevance and potential impact. This involves research, analysis, and pilot testing.
- The domain architect develops technology roadmaps specific to the domain and outlines the strategic adoption of new technologies. This ensures that the adoption process is planned and aligned with business goals.
- The Domain Architect ensures that all relevant perspectives are considered by engaging stakeholders in evaluating and selecting new technologies. This collaborative approach helps to make informed and balanced decisions.
Team Role (Individual Contributor):
- Follow relevant quality procedures to deliver quality products and services and identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement. Undertake additional quality responsibilities (e.g., audit) when appropriately trained to undertake these responsibilities.
- Contribute ideas on systems and process methods to improve deliverables.
- Work safely, complying with all safety procedures, rules, and instructions; and reporting workplace hazards, incidents, or injuries to manager.
Key Requirements:
Minimum:
- Degree in Information Technology, engineering, or a related study, TOGAF or similar certification,
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in relevant domain.
- Customer-focused, purposeful with a passion for excellence
- Proven delivery capability in planning and execution of activities
- Ability to identify and maintain broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.
- Business acumen and thought leadership.
- Proficiency in architectural frameworks and experience with Sitecore CMS/DAM and Salesforce platforms.
- Solid understanding of integration technologies like Boomi and AWS services.
Ideal:
- Demonstrated 3-5 years of experience as a Domain Architect and experience as a Principal Solution Architect
- Post Graduate qualifications.
- Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., medical devices)
- Previous experience in large scale organisations and transformation projects
- Certifications in Enterprise Architecture (e.g., TOGAF), Sitecore, and Salesforce.
- Extensive experience in developing and implementing enterprise architecture strategies in a global organisation.
- Expertise in designing scalable and secure digital marketing and CRM solutions.
