Based on the central coast, in this field-based role you will work within the inspectorate team, taking the lead on regional cruelty investigations and proactive enforcement covering the central coast and Northern Beaches region in New South Wales.
Responsibilities:
- Investigates animal welfare and cruelty complaints that have been logged into the animal welfare software
- Prosecutes non-compliant owners
- Educates the community on looking after animals in their care
- Removes animals in immediate or potential risk.
- Provides appropriate assessment and interventions for emergency situations
- Communicates effectively and clearly with internal and external stakeholders on all animals seized and related matters
- Interprets and applies the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1979) and provides accurate advice and information
- Undertakes pro-active patrols and audits to detect offences in relation
- Conducts comprehensive investigations, prepares reports and briefs of evidence
- Attends court hearings and gives evidence when required
- Educates all levels of the community in responsible and appropriate animal welfare and treatment
- Educates and assists animal owners with animal welfare issues
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in the enforcement of legislation, and the collection and presentation of evidence in court including the ability to take factual legal statements
- Experience in report writing
- Experience in conflict resolution
- Experience in animal care, husbandry and handling, including horses and livestock, is desirable
- Background in either animal welfare or law enforcement, or equivalent
- Cert IV in Government Investigations or equivalent (or willingness to work towards)
- Drivers licence
- Firearms License (or ability obtain)
- Strong people and communication skills
- Good time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure
- Able to work confidently autonomously as well as an effective team member
- A good working knowledge of the appropriate legislation including (but not limited to) Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Companion Animals Act and Codes of Practice

This role is initially offered as a two-year fixed term contract, with the opportunity to be ongoing. Subject to continued funding.
